Nature Studies: Terroir was created specificaly to be shown in the historic Domaine Des Grands Devers in France’s Rhone Valley. After being invited to create an exhibition and installation for this unique setting, I began researching the region’s ecology and history. The subsequent paintings and installation in the old stone building were inspired by the terroir of the region — its geography, soil, plants, animals, and, in particular, its rich winemaking tradition, which goes back to the time of the Romans.
