NUMBER SERIES

Statement

The ongoing body of work Number Series comes from my fascination with marks made by the human hand throughout time, particularly numbers and calculations. By combining vintage papers found in Europe with my own calligraphic marks, I express the urge to “make a mark” in the larger stream of human activity. I work these papers into encaustic paintings (pigmented, molten beeswax), building up and scraping away layers of luminous wax that both illuminate and obscure the papers beneath, a process that comes to represent the imprecise lens of time and memory.
