GENERATIVE DEVICES
Statement
Generative Devices grew out of a chance discovery of hand-rendered mechanical drawings in vintage Belgian instructional manuals. I attached these images, along with handmade papers, directly to canvas or paper, and then applied paint over and around them. As I worked with these arcane geometric diagrams, in my imagination they seemed to take on a certain radiance, hinting at a mysterious, symbolic geometry. In creating this series I enjoyed a sense of play, as I imagined myself involved in an ancient, alchemical process.
